Christmas in Mallorca

After a busy season in Mallorca - at Christmas the Island tends to wind down and relaxes into the festive mode! Mallorca is a wonderful place to celebrate Christmas. Some of of villas offer Christmas and New Year stays when the houses are decorated beautifully.

Shopping

Palma

There are plenty of shopping options avaialble in particular Palma. Why not visit one of the many Christmas Markets that take place. The Markets are available until 6th January. There are also free workshops for children. The Three Kings and Santa Claus make special appearances. The Plaza Mayor is transformed in the the Markets where decorations and gifts are avaialble to purchase. The market contiues to La Ramble.

Pueblo Espanol

The streets are transformed into a Winter Wonderland with stalls selling warm foods, mulled wine and more.

Port Adriano

The Christmas Markets in Port Adriano are full of festive spirits with dozens of stalls selling local treats such as Kartoffelalat and Lebkuchen. Lights and Christmas trees add to the atmosphere. The are lots of free childrens activities including storytelling. The skating rink is also a popular venue during the season. This is open from 17th December until 9th January. Skates are avaialble for people over four years old.

Alaro

Alaro holds a 2 day market on 10th and 11th December. There are plenty of local handmade products and local food with plenty of festive cheer.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Christmas Eve or Nochebuena is widely celebrated with friends and families with traditional fayre such as lamb, seafood and 'turran' to be enjoyed. On Christmas Day families enjoy Church Services and spending time relaxing with loved ones.

New Years Eve

'Nochevieja' is a big celebration in Mallorca. People gather in local squarea and welcome in the New Year with fireworks - the traditional eating of twelve grapes at midnight happens representing good luck for each month of the year. The main celebrations are in Palma where locals will flock to see the fireworks lighting up the Catherdral. Bars and restaurants will have special menus available.

The Three Kings

The Christmas seasons culminates on 5th and 6th of January. The 'Cablagata de los Reys' or Three Kings takes place on 5th January. Parades across the Island feature the Three Wise Men who distribute sweets and gifts to the crowds. The 6th of January is a day when families get together to enjoy a special meal.
